WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Hello All,

We'll see who is reading the web page based on how many comments we get for this article! I am proposing that we use Google Picasa for posting the pictures for this year's rides. The advantages are multi-fold:

  • The pictures can be downloaded by members for printing or for using for their screen saver.
  • The entire group of photos can be played as a slide show so you can sit back and watch instead of having to click through all those pictures.
  • Other photographers on the ride can upload their photos to the site so we can see their masterpieces.
  • Members can comment on pictures (this could be fun). I have added some captions for you to see.
  • Faces can be identified and then you can search by person.
  • Google Earth is shown with the location that the picture was taken. This assumes that your camera is capturing the GPS data or you are adding it (as I do).

Go to the Renner ATV Web Gallery to view a few albums that I have uploaded from last year's pictures. Add some captions and see what happens. Click on the "Add name tages" button and see what pops up.

This service will cost us between $5 for 20 GB of space up to $20 for 80 GB. These are annual costs. I know that the $5 will cover a year unless we get uploads from all photographers. We can play this by ear and decide we need more as we are topping out.

So go to the link shown above and play around a little. I think this service would be great for us and allow everyone to become involved tagging people in the photos as well as adding captions.

Click on the "Post a Comment" below and let all of us know what you think. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you.    ~Dave

NEW PHOTOS AND VIDEOS POSTED

I have finally posted the photos that Naomi took during the camping trip to Weed Heights. Thanks Naomi for always taking great pictures and sharing them with all of us.

Also, for those of you on the rides this past weekend, you saw me using a small video camera (Kodak Zi8) capturing some of Larry's stories about what we were viewing. They are in the Videos section here on the website. They are actually stored at YouTube. The video camera I am using is shown in the margin on the right of this article. It takes HD video, and is really easy to use.

The two rides this past weekend were awesome. We experienced more clouds on Saturday than the weatherman predicted, but it was still nice. Sunday was sunny all day with not a cloud in the sky. Of the two rides, I personally liked Sunday's ride better. I think that is due to there being more sites to see at all the various mines we visited. It's amazing how many deep holes were in that area.

For those of you that went to the Mopung Hills I will be taking the pictures of the rock pile (see photo) into the archeologist that works with me to see if she knows what it is. I think it's a gravesite, but that's just a guess. It wasn't too far off of the 40 mile desert trail, and could have been a resting place for some of those that didn't make it. As soon as I learn anything I will post it here, so check back in the "Update" section of this post.

We only have one more Club ride left, which will be to Seven Troughs. If you didn't make that one in the past, it is a good one that you shouldn't miss. There is some real history and some nice ruins along this ride.
